After having been in the fiberglass boat repair and
restorations business for many years, it stands to reason that we would have
worked with and tried many products. We have always remained open to
trying new products and are always alert to new technologies.
When it comes to surface maintenance and restorations,
while we have tried many different waxes, polishes and compounds, we have also
held to our favorite products. Our favorite products are those which do
the job that they are expected to do, and do it well. They have too,
because we are out there working for boat owners, and boat owners, being the
way they are tend to be among the pickiest lot of people you can find!
For technicians in the field of repairing and restoring boats, it's also
essential that a product be easy to use, i.e., it is efficient, thereby
saving time and money.
We are often approached by well meaning boaters who want us to try this
product and that product. "Hey, this stuff works great!" they
say with excitement. "Give this a try!"
Well, being of the curious nature we are always willing to give those
recommended products a try. What can it hurt right? Why, if it
happens to be something better than what we are already using then
terrific! And if not, we can always just scrap it. And believe me,
we have scrapped a lot of products, and some of them have been big name
products! But all of our
product trials have not been through trial and error. The choices we
have made regarding the products we use and remain faithful too have been the
result of research and study as much as field testing. We don't just
want to know what the wax is, but we want to know what is IN the wax?
What are the chemical properties? How is it going to react with various
surfaces? The study of gelcoats and paints is also required - what does
the gelcoat itself need to keep it vibrant and strong, healthy and
young looking? Armed with knowledge and enticed
by a strong desire to always use the best products on our customers boats, we
finally took the step to find a lab who would produce for us the products we
use daily, according to the specifications that we desire. Hence,
our own product line was made a reality.
Now all product manufacturers like to toot their horn about how they are
